CEO & Co-Founder, Nutshell

Nutshell is entering a new growth phase, as you’ve probably read from our CEO. Joe has outlined a few new hires on the marketing and customer experience side of the house. But at the heart of Nutshell lies a terrific product, and to accelerate development, we’re adding to our engineering team. Welcome aboard our newest mobile software engineer, Kevin Vitale!

Kevin brings a considerable level of product design and mobile engineering expertise. He will be joining our mobile engineering lead, Andrew Sardone, to improve and expand Nutshell’s iOS application. "Mobile-first" is a platitude that many companies strive for, but we’ve worked to take that goal seriously. When we launched in 2010, we already had a native iPhone application on the App Store. Today, a compelling, powerful mobile application is even more critical, and we’re committed to remaining a leader on that front.

I’ve had a chance to meet Kevin several times through his leadership in the Ann Arbor iOS / Mac software community. Kevin organizes the local NSCoders meetup, a gathering of dozens of Objective-C (and now Swift!) engineers, with a casual, un-conference feel.

Kevin also co-hosts a podcast with Andrew Sardone—Code Optional. It’s a great series on software engineering and mobile app design, with a satisfying Apple slant.

Kevin started his career with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Computer Science from Wayne State University, with research on multi-agent artificial intelligence. After school, he did some great work at Vectorform, building 3D game systems.

But if you’ve ever ordered a pizza from Domino’s on your iPhone, you’ve seen Kevin’s handiwork. After first designing the mobile ordering experience from the ground up, he led the in-house team that built the app that delivered wide acclaim—and billions of dollars of commerce for Domino’s Pizza.

Most recently, Kevin was a senior software engineer with Duo Security, another outstanding Ann Arbor software startup, building powerful (and attractive) security software.

If you’d like to reach out to Kevin, you can find him on Twitter and on GitHub. Welcome to Nutshell, Kevin!

We’re working really hard to build a talented team of engineers that are not only capable of building beautiful software, but of thought leadership and community engagement. If you’re interested in joining us, please send us an email!
